Speaker 1 (00:00:01) - So here's the million dollar question. How are men like us who work hard, have good motives and a God given purpose supposed to fulfill the calling on our lives and the dreams in our hearts, all while establishing sexual integrity, thriving relationships, and a meaningful connection with God. That is the question and this podcast will give you the answers. My name is Sathiya Sam. Welcome to Unleash the Man Within. Yo, yo, what is going on, everybody? It's the same here. Welcome to unleashed the man within. Thank you so much for listening. Uh, so honored that you guys have tuned in and that, uh, we get a chance to spend some time together talking about some really important subjects around faith recovery and masculinity. And today, we're going to be talking about the five physical side effects of porn addiction. And the reality is, um, these, these side effects, it's like, oh my gosh, I didn't know, you know, porn addiction could cause that you're probably going to have that response a little bit today.
Speaker 1 (00:01:04) - But furthermore, it's it's actually about the ripples of these side effects that are so devastating. And so that's why I wanted to talk about them today. Some of you maybe are experiencing some of these side effects and you might not be sure how to deal with them. And so we'll make sure that we go through all of that. Uh, now before I do that, um, this is probably the last time for a while that you'll hear me mention this, but I have a free resource section. I've been trying to trying to just point you guys to it this entire month. Um, I have a free resource section, tons of trainings, booklets, books, PDFs. Everything I can get you that's going to be helpful is on or is in that section on my website. And so I would love for you guys to go check it out. Sathiya Sam Comrie Resources. If you need anything that's recovery related or masculinity related, you can probably find something. And if you can't yet we're working on all kinds of stuff.
Speaker 1 (00:01:53) - Don't worry about that. Um, but you should go check it out. Uh, Sathiya sam.com/resources. And my book is there as well, the last relapse. So you can get a free copy of that. Let's jump into today's content. So today we're talking about the five physical side effects of porn addiction. I can't I can't tell you guys how crazy it is that I can even do an episode on this. Because the reality is, five years ago, when I first started, the whole concept of porn addiction was laughed at. And the idea that there's like, physical side effects was kind of an emerging conversation. Like there was there was talks about, you know, porn induced erectile dysfunction. And that's something we're going to go into today. But some of these other things that are on this list, I'm just like, man, like, what do you what do people freaking need to realize how damaging and devastating this is to our society, let alone the well-being of, you know, men and women around the world? It's just it's crazy to me.
Speaker 1 (00:02:49) - So this this is really eye opening stuff. All of this is research based. There's studies proving all of these things that I'm about to talk about. And and the truth of the matter, guys, is you are likely to experience one of these physical side effects, probably multiple of them, if you haven't already. And so there's an embedded message in here, which is that if you don't want these side effects, then don't watch porn. And we're going to talk a little bit about the solution side of this at the very end. Okay. So let's go through it. The first I mentioned is porn induced erectile dysfunction. So this is actually a diagnosed diagnosable condition where too much porn consumption has affected a man's ability to experience an erection. Crazy. Absolutely crazy. The rate of erectile dysfunction in men under the age of 40 is reported to be as high as 30% in today's day, and age 30%, it was 5% in 2001. So that should give you an idea of how much the tide has turned and how much porn is contributing to our ability to not perform or inability to perform.
Speaker 1 (00:03:55) - Uh, number two, premature ejaculation. So some porn consumers are more likely to experience climax during sex more quickly or even before sex begins. Um, this is, uh, this is the result of sensitization, okay? It's a process in the brain where your brain becomes more sensitive to cuz it's where your brain starts to sexualize things that are not that sexual. And it basically your brain is beginning to prioritize in its programming, getting the ejaculation because it's such a good feeling getting turned on is so, you know, dopamine inducing. It's so exhilarating and as a result, there is a lack of longevity in any kind of sexual experience, very, very common amongst porn users. I'm going to guess I'm a majority of you listening have probably experienced that at some point. All right. Alternatively, there is delayed ejaculation. So premature is when it happens, you know, way too fast. And delayed ejaculation is when it takes away too long. And the reason for this is the opposite effect in the brain.
Speaker 1 (00:05:00) - It's not sensitization, but it is desensitization. And it is where your brain does not respond to normal amounts of stimulus because it has become accustomed to things that are super stimulating porn in of itself. But then certainly more novel and extreme content is particularly stimulating. And so if you watch more of that kind of stuff, your brain begins to increase the threshold of stimulation that's required to actually experience any kind of climax or arousal. And so you have guys who. Simply cannot. They cannot finish, they cannot complete, or it takes a very, very long time for them to do so. And that is in large part because of pawn programming. Um, these next two are are where things have just become kind of mind blowing for me. And I, I almost can't believe that these studies exist. I looked into them to see if maybe, maybe the claim was unsubstantiated, but as far as I can tell, these are legitimate studies. Their methods were were legitimate and their conclusions and results are accurate. So the fourth physical side effect of porn addiction is infertility.
Speaker 1 (00:06:08) - And this one just blows my mind. I mean, what greater indicator do we need that this is a problem like okay, affecting someone's sex life. That's a problem for someone's pleasure, their enjoyment in life, their sense as uh, as a man and obviously, you know, that could have implications for procreation. And, and ditto for porn induced erectile dysfunction. So I think we can kind of see how all these, these would play in. But they're much heavier on the, um, the individual side of it. Or it's like the individual doesn't get the ejaculation or he gets it too quickly and he's embarrassed or he can't get it up, you know, which is embarrassing in whatever else. But now we're talking about infertility. We're talking about two couples, sorry, two people, rather as a couple who want to procreate. And they can't because the guy is watching porn. And specifically pornography is shown to affect sperm counts and the quality of the semen, both which are imperative for fertility. So this is this is fascinating to think that pornography could have this kind of devastating effect on the body.
Speaker 1 (00:07:07) - And we've done another episode on this, but the three qualities that these porn consumers all had who experienced reduced fertility is they were exposed at a young age, they were watching twice or more per week, and they frequently coupled porn consumption with masturbation. So if you're in that camp, if you tick those boxes, um, your chances of infertility are dramatically higher. Um, because your, your sperm count is going to be lower and your semen quality is also going to be reduced. So very, very interesting. Um, and the fifth one again, just another, another one where you just think what is going on here. Why is this in the fold? Uh, but it does make sense. And that is eating disorders. And so porn consumers are more likely to have bad relationships with food, uh, which leads to eating disorders in large part due to body dysmorphia. So the, the the general concept here is, um, they observed that porn consumers were more likely to have bad eating habits, okay, binging, purging, kind of toxic relationships with food.
Speaker 1 (00:08:06) - And they thought that was a little bit weird because, you know, you wouldn't like why. What what does porn have to do with our appetite? But as they kind of dove more into it, what they realized and discovered is that the porn they're viewing is creating body dysmorphia. In other words, um, a guy is watching porn and he's saying, well, I don't have, you know, a 12 inch, uh, you know what? I don't have a ripped six pack and all these chiseled muscles, and this is but this is what women want, because that's what porn is teaching me. This is this is what a guy is supposed to be like. And so this body dysmorphia of I'm not skinny enough, I'm not muscular enough, I'm not, um, endowed enough is starting to create these bad habits with food to try to get a better body, which is, you know, classic eating disorder of virtually any kind. That's the basis of it is a body dysmorphia. So this is a problem.
Speaker 1 (00:09:00) - Okay. These are these are problems. And um, I experienced almost all of these things in one way, shape or form. I've talked about how I, um, I measured myself, I got a measuring tape out and measured myself because I wanted to know how I stacked up to the guys I was watching. Um, online infertility is the only thing I haven't experienced here. Um, but again, I didn't. I never tried to have kids while I was watching porn. You know, my wife and I tried, uh, started trying about a year ago and got pregnant right away. Um, but that was seven years after I quit porn. So, you know, I'm not a good case study for that. Um, but I can tell you these these symptoms are rampant, and people are blaming, you know, a healthy, uh, or sorry, blaming lifestyle, like stress. They're blaming, you know, relationship dissatisfaction. They're blaming, you know, society and technology. And I'm telling you, pornography is is probably at the center of most of these disorders that people are experiencing.
Speaker 1 (00:09:54) - So what is this to say? Well, number one, obviously it's time to quit pornography. Uh, but number two, if you are experiencing these side effects, erectile dysfunction, um, any kind of, um, impedance with ejaculation, whether it's premature or delayed, highly, highly, highly recommend that you talk to a professional, um, who understands the psychological components of this. So a doctor is going to tell you to get Viagra or those kinds of things. But if you can talk to somebody who's a little bit more on the clinical, um, psychological side, supremely valuable or obviously a coach, you know, who, who doesn't, who's not going to give you just. Viagra because they can't prescribe, um, if you're dealing with infertility, this would be a really good thing to look into. We actually had a client who, uh, dealt with infertility for about a year and a half, did several rounds of IVF and, you know, some other interventions to try to get pregnant and, and couldn't but quit porn along the way.
Speaker 1 (00:10:49) - And he and his wife were ready to do another round of IVF. And before they do that, they have to, you know, she has to do a pregnancy test just to make sure everything's clear. And sure enough, they got pregnant naturally. And, you know, evidence, evidence that, you know, when you quit pouring, your body can turn around the eating disorder thing as well, if you are, if you have a bad, you know, relationship with food, if you're dealing with body dysmorphia, I want to really encourage you, um, there's help out there and and quitting pornography literally could be the difference between you having a healthy body image, you being fertile and being able to procreate, you having a healthy sex life where you're ejaculating normally and you're able to get it up on demand when you want. Um, I mean, the difference here is not much. And all signs point to quitting pornography. And so I can't encourage it enough that the link is in our show notes.
Speaker 1 (00:11:40) - You know that if you ever want to book with someone on my team and see if our program is a good fit for you, it's there. But I'm telling you guys, um, quitting porn can literally reverse all of these effects in as little as 21 days. Okay, some of them are going to take a bit longer. It sort of depends on what you're dealing with. But as quickly as 21 days, bam, your body is back and it's almost like it never happened. That's a pretty beautiful thing, so highly recommend it.
