Speaker 1 (00:00:01) - So here's the million dollar question. How are men like us who work hard, have good motives and a God given purpose supposed to fulfill the calling on our lives and the dreams in our hearts, all while establishing sexual integrity, thriving relationships, and a meaningful connection with God. That is the question and this podcast will give you the answers. My name is Sathiya Sam. Welcome to Unleash the Man Within. Hey, hey, what's up, my man? It's Sathiya Sam here. Welcome to Unleash the Man Within. Thank you so much for listening. I'm so glad you're here. I'm so honored that you would have taken a little bit of time out of your busy day to listen in, and I promise we will make the next 10 to 12 minutes absolutely worth your while. Now, really quickly, before I jump in, we have a bunch of openings in my coaching practice right now. Deep clean, and I just wanted to let you guys know in case you've been listening. Maybe you've been on the fence.
Speaker 1 (00:01:00) - Maybe 2023 was supposed to be the year that you finally got clean. And here you are. You know, it's November and we're sort of rounding out the last couple of months of the year. And maybe you're realizing, shoot, this has not gone the way I planned. I just want to let you know, number one, it's not too late. Okay. There's still time. And in these next seven weeks that are left, give or take, God can do a lot of good if you're willing to let him. Number two, what I would like to suggest to you is that everything you've done up until this point has gotten you to this point, and if you want to find yourself in a different place, you might need to do something you haven't done before or something different. And so I highly recommend you check out our program Deep Clean. We really are the most comprehensive solution out there for Christian men who want to quit pornography once and for all. I will save you the details, but there's a link in the show notes.
Speaker 1 (00:01:54) - If you want to go find out more about what we do, you can book a call with my team. We'll tell you a little bit more about it. You actually get directed to a website that explains a bunch anyway, so that you kind of come in to the call with some knowledge. But really, I can't emphasize this enough. If your marriage is struggling, if you are struggling, if your relationship with God is struggling and you know that enough is enough and you're ready to get clean once and for all, look, this is your chance. Link is in the calendar. Nope. Calendar link is in the show notes. That's the one link to the calendars in the show notes. Go ahead, book your time. We'd love to see you there. Okay, let's talk a little bit today about eliminating superstition from your recovery. What the heck am I talking about? Well, I actually had a different episode in mind for for today. And then I saw that this was episode number six, six, six, and that number just kind of jumps out to me.
Speaker 1 (00:02:45) - I don't know if you guys grew up with some of the philosophies around six, six, six, but I did, and so six, six, six was the devil's number. And interestingly enough, I never actually learned that from my parents or from church. I learned it at school by one of my Christian teachers. Well, I went to a Christian school, so obviously I had a Christian teacher, but one of my teachers who was talking about it, it being the devil's number, and I was always so confused, you know, I didn't really get it, but it it kind of just reminded me of superstition. And look, the devil is real. I'm not I'm not in that camp of like, oh, you know, we just ignore the devil. He's not a big deal. Whatever. No, there is an enemy of our souls. That's pretty much as biblical as it gets. And you and I are to be on guard against that enemy. That's just, you know, truth.
Speaker 1 (00:03:37) - That's just fact. But I think I think what happens sometimes is we give the devil or we give superstitions a little bit more credit than they really deserve. It's been interesting. I've befriended a couple people in the last six months who work with athletes. They either do fitness coaching or mindset coaching, and the one thing that I hear them say again and again is that athletes are some of the most superstitious people on the planet. So if they wear something and then they have a lights out performance, they're going to wear that thing again and again and that kind of idea. And anyways, all of this has kind of reminded me of when I was in recovery, how superstitious I actually became, you know, because when you, you know, just let me translate you back into porn addicted, porn addicted. Sathiya, who can barely go a day without watching porn because he's so dependent on it. He's so in denial about the depravity of his existence to be a little bit dramatic and. And the addiction in of itself that I really I rarely in that season I rarely went, you know, a day or even even two days without watching porn.
Speaker 1 (00:04:55) - So when I did start to hit 3 or 4 days, you know, which would happen from time to time, I became very superstitious about it and it was like, oh, what did I what did I do? What have I done the last three, four days? Oh man, I, I, I eat chocolate cake, I eat chocolate cake four days ago. And ever since I eat chocolate cake, I've been clean. Let's go get chocolate cake. You know what I mean? Obviously, it wasn't quite like that. Like, I'm embellishing this a little bit, but this, this kind of superstition is basically false reasoning, so there's nothing wrong with reasoning, in fact. That that whole. Attitude of I had success. Let's look back and find out why that is number one, incredibly innate to every human being on the planet. But number two, unbelievably helpful. Like, this is how you learn. And it's a good thing to do that for your mistakes as well. Look back at your mistakes and learn from them.
Speaker 1 (00:05:53) - That's incredibly useful. But when we draw a false conclusion about what caused the success or the failure, we we have actually done ourselves more harm than good. Not only because we robbed ourselves of the real solutions or the real valuable insights, but number two, we are now going to invest our precious time and energy in some superstitions cause people money. Into something that is ultimately ineffective and that can be really devastating in recovery. So for you as a listener, if you're new, you would risk falling into this category. Although I would say that if you've been listening to us for a while, you've actually been doing something that would prevent you from from kind of becoming superstitious in recovery. And I'm going to show you exactly what I mean in a minute. Okay. So let's go back to predictive example. He goes four days clean. He looks back and he's like, man, I ate chocolate cake four days ago. I need to keep eating chocolate cake. I'm feeling a little bit lustful today, so I'll go eat another slice.
Speaker 1 (00:07:01) - And then let's see if this will tie me over for another four days. And let's just say it miraculously works. And we keep doing this. But eventually, at some point, you know, it doesn't because the the urges become overwhelming. Or my chocolate cake supplier gets pissed at me or, you know, something happens and the pattern breaks or it becomes really clear. Okay, I guess chocolate cake wasn't working after all. The reason that people. Falsely reason. Is because they do not understand the true principles that are at play. So let's try. Let's try another superstition. The day that my son was born. Or. Well, not the day he was born. Actually, the day went well. While my wife was in labor, the the Leafs were playing my favorite hockey team. And so. So they won. They won that night they mounted a comeback and and they won. So I was like, oh, Judah, you know, you're you're good luck for daddy's team right. And then we watched the game together.
Speaker 1 (00:08:06) - Together quote unquote. You know I was kind of rocking back and forth and we're watching the Leafs and they won the next game. And so it's like, oh my gosh Judah you're my good luck charm. Whatever. Well obviously like I would do that jokingly, you know. But imagine I actually believe that. The problem is I don't actually understand how teams win a hockey game. Like if I think that I can have that kind of influence over a hockey teams result, I just don't understand hockey. And similarly if, if you if you become superstitious about recovery, like, oh, when I did these random things and then had a little streak, I'm going to keep doing those. All you do is reveal how little you understand recovery, which is why those of you that have been listening to us for a while, you probably are less prone to fall into that thinking because you understand that to really make lasting recovery, you have to get into the roots. You have to. You have to get underneath the surface.
Speaker 1 (00:08:57) - You have to do the hard work to actually find out the causal elements. This is how you make a full recovery. And when you sandwich that in between coaching and a community, you end up really positioning yourself for success. It, I'd say, becomes inevitable, but if you don't have that knowledge and you don't have that understanding, then you correctly reflect back and try to understand like, okay, what caused this success? But unfortunately you draw the wrong conclusions because you don't understand what's actually at play. And so I want to encourage you guys, number one, eliminate like just be on with this superstition is ridiculous. But number two, enhance your knowledge. If you are reaching conclusions of this must have been what caused it. And then it turns out that as you start to do more of that thing, you're still relapsing and slipping. Well, now you need to figure out, okay, do I need to stick longer with this or did this thing not work? Did I did I become quote unquote superstitious? In other words, did I falsely reason why this was working? Maybe I need a different solution.
Speaker 1 (00:10:02) - Maybe this is the right solution. I need to keep going. That's where having some professional help can help you discern those things. But the point here is let's eliminate the superstitions, okay? Let's let go of it and excuse me. And let's channel our energy and our time and our resources into things that actually move the needle forward, like getting to the root of the issue. That's what this should all be about. So if you're in that place where you like Sathiya, I'm ready then. Look, we got a lot of spots available right now. Right now, that's the operative word. These spots do not stay open forever. We typically end up wait, listing at least 5 to 10 people per month because of the demand and so I want to encourage you. Go fill your spot right now before it's too late. You can book your call. We would love to speak with you. We'd love to see if we can help you. And we'd love to see if maybe you can experience lasting freedom as well.
Speaker 1 (00:10:54) - I really don't see any reason why every single person listening should not be walking in that. And we'll help you with the discernment piece. We'll help you obviously make sure that you're reasoning correctly. And this whole concept of getting to the roots while we're going to shine a huge white bright light on that as well, so that you can walk in full freedom, become the man God made you to be. We love to be a part of it. So link is in the show notes to book a call. In the meantime, guys, ditch the superstition. Stay clean. We'll talk soon. Bye bye. Hey everybody, it's Lithia again.
