Speaker 1 (00:00:01) - So here's the million dollar question. And of course, if you want these trainings, these epic trains I'm putting together a little bit before everybody else on the podcast, then you need to follow me on Instagram. The link should be in the show notes. Sathya Sam Sorry, Instagram.com slash Sathya Me Sam or obviously on mobile you can just type in the handle. Sathya Me Sam. Today's episode is titled Know Your Season or Stay Stuck Forever. Oh my goodness. Sathya, What is with the dramatic title? Okay, well, you know, stay stuck forever. Okay, Maybe that's a little bit of an overstatement, but I really believe that one of the reasons that people do not progress in life is because they fail to recognize the season that they're in.
Speaker 1 (00:02:20) - And so I want to unpack this concept a little bit. And then with the couple of minutes we'll have left after that, I'm going to explain how you can actually know your season, because that, of course, is the million dollar question. Let me give you a great example. A friend, a colleague of mine, his name is Mike, and we met about two years ago. Is that right? Two years ago, Yeah. Yeah. Mike and I met two years ago, and we met because we were in a group of business owners that was primarily out of. Out of the States. But he and I were the two Canadians, and we happen to live about an hour from each other. So Shalamar and I were just getting ready to move to Jamaica, but he was a really friendly guy. I was really impressed by him and I was looking to connect with more business people at the time because I had literally just quit my job and was starting to do deep clean as my as my full time gig.
Speaker 1 (00:03:14) - So I made some time to meet up. And we we hit it off and he he was in this cool season personally where he was starting to to grow his business. He had kind of made the leap about a year before I did, or maybe two years before. And he was also trying to do some things with his body that he hadn't done before. He was a jujitsu. Is that right? Jujitsu? No, Muay Thai. He was a Muay Thai champion, actually, a world wide champion. He was really, really good. But he was very skinny. He was very lean, and he wanted to bulk up. He was kind of done with the professional martial arts, and he was much more about a more well-rounded, holistic approach. And so he still wanted to maintain his athleticism, but he wanted to put on muscle. And I was in a very similar season. So over those next two years I've put on since then, I've put on probably about 20 to £25 of muscle.
Speaker 1 (00:04:08) - I've gone from being £150 to £175. Mike went from being £175 to being £225. He put on £50 of basically pure muscle over the course of two years. Definitely some fat in there. But but if you look at him, the guy is flippin huge. Knowing your season. It understands, firstly, personal limitations. So the reality is, number one, this guy was a professional athlete, so he just hits the gym way harder than I do. Number two, he knows his body better than I do. And number three, he was in a different season. This was a continuation of athletic pursuits. And he was able to channel some of the good things he had developed mentally and consistency and habitually into a new goal. I was learning something for the first time, so I actually felt depressed at certain points because I'm like, Man, look at this guy. He's gained all these gains and what's wrong with me? I, I started out even skinnier, so I should be having more newbie gains.
Speaker 1 (00:05:08) - And, you know, I was kind of going into that lamenting woeful fitness fit that people do. And I realized that we're in different seasons. You guys may listen to the show and you're like, Man City. He seems to have it made seven and a half years of freedom and he's happily married, about to have a kid and he's got a business and da da da da da. I've heard a bunch of you guys say that, but here's the honest truth. I'm just in a different season than you. You know, I don't think I'm better than you. Like, when it comes to recovery, especially, I really don't talk about my success to flaunt or to gloat. I do it to inspire. And I do it because I am utterly convinced that I am not special and that you guys are are the same, if not better and more special than I am. I'm just in a different season. You know, I had my season of intense recovery of really going after this and I was able to build a new life for myself that now I get to enjoy.
Speaker 1 (00:06:04) - You guys are just in a different season. Here's why you need to know your season. When you know your season. You then know your priorities. Okay. So if you are if I if I made my goal to try to be like Mike. And, you know, gain another £25 of muscle and whatever. Well, the problem is, I'm I'm putting my priorities. In my life based on Mike's season. Personally right now, that's not the season I'm in. I'm actually in a season of trimming down again, of cutting. I put on some fat in my weight gain, so I actually put on about £40. But not all of that was was muscle. I got a little bit mixed up with my calories and I'm still kind of learning that part of my body. And so so it's just been it's just been a little bit I don't know what's the word scattered. It's not, um, sporadic, man. I'm rarely at a loss for words. I'm struggling to come up with the right one, but it's been a little bit hard to manage.
Speaker 1 (00:07:04) - So I'm in a different season and my priorities have shifted. So in recovery, you need to know your your priorities even in life, you need to know your priorities. But first you need to know your season. The season will dictate the priorities. You know, my wife and I had a 20. 22 was a year of adventure for us. We lived in Jamaica for seven months. We we traveled to Europe for five weeks. We went paragliding off mountains. And, you know, we went on we were on the white sandy beaches of Jamaica as much as we could. And in between that, you know, we did a bunch of things on our house and and this and that. And it was the year of an adventure. It was it was so much fun. And so in that season, our priority was very simple. Let's do the things that we can do now that we won't be able to do when we have kids. Why? Because in 2023 we want to start having kids and our first born is due in a couple of weeks here.
Speaker 1 (00:07:59) - Four weeks, five weeks, I think it is. So again, you have to know your season again. Somebody could look at my life last year and be like, Wow, he does all these amazing things. Why am I not doing these amazing things? Well, maybe because that's not the season you're in, right? So. So what? I want you to what I want you to get from all this is know your season, okay? That's so, so important. And that will dictate the priorities which are going to dictate your measurement of whether or not your success. 2022 was a success for me because I did all the things that I wanted to do. We moved to Jamaica, we traveled to Europe. We had a blast. Life was amazing. Period. 2023 has been a success because we even if we weren't, even if we didn't get pregnant, we at least built a more stable life. We've started to dig some roots where we live. We're starting to plug into our community and things are going in the right direction.
Speaker 1 (00:08:47) - And I mean, obviously we're having a freaking kid, so mission accomplished. Okay? So how do you know your season? That's the question, right? So we want to know our season because if we know our season, then we know our priorities. And if we know our priorities, then we know how to measure whether or not we were successful in that season. Well, the first thing we want to do is we actually want to hear from the Lord. See, God told me at the beginning of this year, 2023, this was the year of multiplication. And so obviously my wife and I are having a kid multiplication. But the business has grown. Our team has grown, my knowledge has grown, my character has grown, my integrity has grown, my values have grown. All of these things are things that have multiplied. It's just the season that I'm in and all of these things will continue to grow. But there is a multiplicity taking place in these areas because that's the season I'm in right now.
Speaker 1 (00:09:36) - And believe you me, I have been in seasons where I am doing the opposite. I've God must have spoken the word of division over my life because there were certain times where it felt like I was losing everything and I had nothing going for me again. Know the season. And number one, hear from God. Number two, pay attention to the desires of your heart. This is so important. The desires of our heart matter. Now they don't matter as much as some churches would like you to think. You know, I think some pastors run a bit too far with this message and it's like, Well, if you want it, then God wants you to have it too. And that's just not true. But there is scriptural basis for this Psalm 37, verse three and four, say trust in the Lord, do good in the land, feed on his faithfulness or feed on his promises, and also delight yourself in him, and he will grant the desires of your heart. So there's a list of things we do there.
Speaker 1 (00:10:26) - And then God is interested in the desires of our heart. And so those things matter. Pay attention to the things that you're longing for, the things that are firing you up, that are really getting you going. There's something to be said about that. Number three is you may not know your season until it is past, and that is just the reality. So what do you do with that? Well, you stay present and make the most of every single moment you get right now, because one day you're going to have clarity on all this and it's all going to make sense. Let me finish with one final anecdotal kind of piece for you guys. I went on this big Kobe Bryant binge after he passed away in January 2020, and I was looking for anything I could find, you know, any of any content about him. I just I became so captivated by him all over again. And I remember this video. It was this nine year old kid who submitted a question and someone had read the question to him.
Speaker 1 (00:11:22) - It's like, you know, nine year old Ricky is about to go to his first basketball tryout. What piece of advice do you have for him? And just knowing how, you know, strict and rigid and kind of tyrannical Kobe can be, I just thought, oh, my gosh, like he's just going to shred him to pieces. And and Kobe was like, Hey, Ricky, man, congrats on going on your first audition. That's so awesome, man. Hey, just one piece of advice, man. Do your best. Oh, man. And it just that that the way he said it and the fact that that's what he chose to advise him on, of all things, it spoke something to me. It reminded me something that, you know, Kobe understood that that a very, very tiny percentage actually are going to make it to his level, most people right in these questions, they're not going to they're not going to make it to his level. But they don't need to.
Speaker 1 (00:12:08) - They just need to do their best the same way that Kobe did his best to get where he got. And so in your guys lives, stop it with the comparison. Stop it with, you know, absorbing other people's priorities based on their seasons and not your own. Live your life, know your season, identify your priorities and measure your success that way and everything else. Guys, I promise you will live a more peaceful, a more happy and joyful and content life. You'll thank me for it. Anyway, that's everything for today. Thank you guys so much for listening.
